Hi!
As you write, there have only been made preparations for adding support for
multiple display, it has not been added yet, so in some sense this is still
a hypothetical discussion.
And yes, if this is added, it will bring in new issues, though I'm not as
pessimistic as you, not yet at least.
As for external applications, VLC supports multiple outputs, PowerPoint and
Impress does not seem to support it.
A really great use case for multiple displays that a hardware splitter
can't do is displaying multiple languages. I know multiple languages are
not yet support by OpenLP, but I hope it will in the future.
Regarding stage view, I think it would be great if users could set up a
stage view display from OpenLPs screen/display settings.
